Pico de Loro

Heavy rain flooded the streets of Metro Manila on the eve of Pico de Loro day hike organized by pinoymountaineer.com

I’m not new to this weather condition in climbing mountains but I was worried with the assessment of my new trekking shoes as muddy and slippery trail is ahead of us.

Together with the climb participants, we left El Pueblo, Ortigas at 0410H for Ternate, Cavite. After 2 hour ride we reached the magnetic hill as our Jump off point. At 0640H, we started to ascend on the gradual slope of Mt. Palay-palay National Park.

I was able to climb this mountain about 5 years ago and I was glad to see that almost nothing has changed on my 3 hour trek to the camp site for lunch. 30 minutes after we took our packed lunch we ascended towards the summit. A feast of 360ยบ view of South China Sea, province of Bataan can be seen and of course the famous parrot’s peak or the Pico de Loro.

At 1300H, we descended back to the DENR. And just minutes after we reached the asphalted road of Ternate, Cavite and some photo sessions – rain started to pour down.
